The Hitchhiker's Haunt
Once upon a time, there was a lonely car driver named Jack. He loved driving long distances, especially at night. The darkness and quiet often filled him with a sense of peace.
One evening, as Jack was driving through a remote area, he saw a young woman standing by the side of the road. She looked lost and scared. Feeling compassionate, Jack stopped his car and offered her a ride.
The woman, whose name was Sarah, thanked him gratefully and climbed into the passenger seat. As they drove, Sarah told Jack she was trying to reach her family's house in a nearby town. She said she had gotten lost and couldn't find her way.
Jack listened attentively, trying to figure out the best route. Suddenly, he felt a strange chill run down his spine. He glanced in the rearview mirror and saw a shadowy figure standing on the road, watching them. The figure seemed to be moving closer.
Fear gripped Jack as he tried to focus on the road. He accelerated, hoping to lose the figure. But no matter how fast he drove, the shadow seemed to keep pace.
Just as Jack was about to panic, Sarah's voice broke through his fear. "Don't worry," she said calmly. "He's just a harmless ghost."
Jack's eyes widened in disbelief. "A ghost?" he stammered.
Sarah nodded. "He's been seen around here for years. People say he's the spirit of a young man who was killed in a car accident."
As Sarah spoke, the shadow grew closer. It seemed to be reaching out towards the car. Jack slammed on the brakes, and the figure vanished.
Shaken but relieved, Jack and Sarah continued their journey. When they finally reached Sarah's destination, she thanked Jack again for his help. As she was about to get out of the car, she turned to him and said, "Remember, sometimes the scariest things are the ones we can't see."
Jack nodded, his heart still pounding. He never forgot that night, or the ghostly hitchhiker who had given him such a fright.
