Overview
Jonny Bairstow, a right-handed wicket-keeper for Yorkshire, is the son of former England keeper David Bairstow. He was naturally introduced to the game at a young age, and soon after, he received numerous honors. Because of his 654 runs in the 2007 season, he was selected as the Young Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year winner. He soon thereafter played for Yorkshire's second XI, when his reliable batting struck an impressive 308 runs at an average of 61.6 in 2008. This included a century and ninety-nine at Headingley Carnegie against Worcestershire. Bairstow inked a full-time deal with the county side in October of that year.
In the second innings of his 2009 debut in the first class, he top-scored with an undefeated 82. Over the next two years, he averaged over forty for the county team, and went on to become a regular. Despite scoring eight fifties, he was unable to reach triple figures. The young player had a great year in 2011, as he was called up to the England Lions squad for the January West Indies tour. He made his first-class century in May of that year, which he turned into a double, and he was selected for the national team to play an ODI match against Ireland in August. He was left out of the starting eleven, though.
In the fifth One-Day International (ODI) match in Cardiff against the visiting Indians, he made his debut for his country memorable by hitting a brilliant 21-ball 41 to help England win. Bairstow received his maiden Test call-up to play the West Indies after more success in a T20 encounter against Pakistan and a warm-up match against India. After hitting two outstanding hundreds for Yorkshire at the start of the 2012 season, Baristow was keen to build on his success. However, he had a lackluster debut in the Test match against the West Indies and was just average at the bat.
once that, he was benched for the first two Test matches against South Africa in 2012 in favor of Ravi Bopara. However, once Kevin Pietersen was benched for the third Test, he was called up. Bairstow dug in and returned with a tough 95, earning a standing ovation as he exited the field. In the second innings, he scored another elegant half century, but it was insufficient to lead England to victory. Later, in the LV Championship, he struck his second-highest first-class total of 182 at Scarborough against Leicestershire. He also scored an incredible 68* against Sussex in the Friends Life T20 semifinals.
Despite being included in the England team for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, Bairstow's impact was insignificant and he didn't do well at bat. When England visited India in 2012–2013, Bairstow was a member of the squad. He hit an amazing 118 runs in the warm-up match against Mumbai A. He did not contribute enough to be added to the squad for the third Test; he was only added for the second Test, replacing Ian Bell.
After making his eagerly awaited Ashes debut at Nottingham in 2013, Bairstow defeated the Kiwis at his home field of Headingley with a robust 64 that was filled with forceful cuts and measured pulls. But to end a really poor series, Bairstow only scored one fifty in the four games he participated in. After that, Bairstow went to Australia for the rematch of the Ashes series. He played a few matches in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, but he was unable to get his team out of a difficult situation. 2015's South Africa tour was when Bairstow reached the peak of his abilities.
In Cape Town, the wicket-keeper batsman amassed his first-ever Test hundred runs. He also shared a remarkable 399-run sixth-wicket stand with Ben Stokes, finishing the series with 359 runs at an incredible average of 89.75. After that, he scored two hundreds against Sri Lanka to start the home summer. He had a strong series against Pakistan and then a strong debut tour of the subcontinent. Bairstow had a memorable year in 2016 thanks to his 1470 runs at an average of 58.8 and his 70 wicket-keeping dismissals, which set a record for the most by a keeper in a calendar year.
How each Australian and English player performs in the Ashes defines them. Even so, England suffered.
However, as the IPL moved to the UAE for the following season, Bairstow's performance declined. His average fell to 31.96 and his strike rate fell below 125. Before the IPL was canceled the next season, he had a fantastic start for SRH, amassing 248 runs in seven games. However, he failed to show up for the UAE leg of the competition, citing bubble fatigue. After being selected by Punjab Kings in the 2022 mega auction, Bairstow had a dubious tournament because he was batted down the order. Although Bairstow was signed on for the 2023 campaign, an injury preventJonny Bairstowed him from playing.
